Aim

  • Promote opportunities for advancing practice in cancer care through
  • A deep knowledge and understanding of the potential impact of cancer on patients and the people close to them.
  • Enhance the development of therapeutic relationships between health care professionals and people affected by cancer through effective communication.
  • Promote understanding of the context of cancer care and its relevance to practice.

Target Audience

This module is for health and social care professionals who work with people with cancer in general or specialist hospital or community settings.

  • Carcinogenesis, staging and classification, epidemiology
  • Detection and monitoring
  • Health promotion and screening
  • Organisation and management of cancer services
  • Psychological effects of a cancer diagnosis, survivorship
  • Principles of effective communication in practice, holistic assessment, dealing with difficult communication situations
  • Equality and diversity
