Aim

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature of cancer
  • Enhance and develop the students’ skills and competence in communicating and establishing therapeutic relationships with people affected by cancer
  • Explore the relationship between organisation and management of cancer services and local practice

Target Audience

This module is for health and social care professionals who work with people with cancer in general or specialist hospital or community settings.

  • Carcinogenesis, staging and classification, epidemiology
  • Detection and monitoring
  • Health promotion and screening
  • Organisation and management of cancer services
  • Psychological effects of a cancer diagnosis, survivorship
  • Principles of effective communication in practice, holistic assessment, dealing with difficult communication situations
  • Equality and diversity
