Aim

Enhance health care professionals’ skills in communicating with people affected by cancer
To develop strategies to deal with challenging communication situations in practice

Target Audience

This course is for health care professionals who wish to enhance their skills in communicating with people affected by cancer (Normally bands 5-7 plus Specialty Doctors)

N.B. Not normally suitable for health care professionals who do not have contact with patients or relatives

Context of communication in cancer care
Psychological responses to cancer diagnosis and treatments
Facilitating skills and blocking behaviours
Strategies for dealing with challenging communication situations e.g. anger, distress, collusion, denial
Coping strategies for health care professionals
